Professor Timothy Devinney elected a Fellow of the Academy of Management

Alliance Manchester Business School’s Professor of International Business, Timothy Devinney, has been elected a Fellow of the prestigious Academy of Management (AOM).

The AOM is the leading professional association for management and organisation scholars and has more than 20,000 members globally. Less than 1% of members are Fellows and only a handful of them are based outside the US.

Professor Devinney’s appointment means that Alliance Manchester Business School is now the only UK business school to have two AOM Fellows, the other being Sir Cary Cooper, Alliance MBS’ 50th Anniversary Professor of Organisational Psychology and Health.

Fellowships are specifically awarded to academics for the range, depth and impact of their scholarship, and also for their wider role in influencing the academic community.

Professor Devinney, who also recently became a Fellow of the European International Business Academy (EIBA), said he was greatly honoured by the news: “Although this is a great privilege for me personally, I must also stress that I don’t see this as an individual award. I have worked with many co-authors during my career and this Fellowship reflects on their work too as they have been an immense source of support and influence for me. Receiving this sort of recognition is partially a reflection of the goals you set for yourself and achieved in the past, but it is also a commitment to the responsibility one has to serve as a role model for the community of younger scholars following you.”

Professor Donald Siegel of Arizona State University, Dean of the Fellows of the Academy of Management, said: “Timothy Devinney is a highly influential, boundary-spanning scholar, who has made important intellectual contributions to a variety of fields in management, including international business, strategy, and corporate social responsibility. His research is highly innovative and creative, reflecting his outstanding training at Carnegie Mellon and the University of Chicago. Timothy has also made important contributions to the field as an editor of a leading journal (Academy of Management Perspectives), through his extensive service to various divisions in the Academy of Management, and as one of the most visible global scholars in management.”

Professor Fiona Devine, Head of Alliance Manchester Business School, added: “Becoming a Fellow of such a prestigious organisation is a fantastic achievement for Timothy and recognition of the significant academic contribution he has made to his field over many years. It is also a pleasure to hear that we are the only UK business school with two Academy Fellows which also speaks volumes about our global standing in the field of business and management."
