Holding Steadfast to Its Social Responsibility Goals in a Changing World

The University of Manchester East Asia Centre has recently reached multiple social responsibility milestones with affirmations from two major organisations. From fundraising endeavours to championing work-life balance, the Centre has consistently striven to meet people’s educational needs while contributing towards the creation of a more compassionate society.

In Feb 2021, the Centre was awarded an SDG World Record Certificate in the following category: “Most Participation for Rethinking Education and Shaping the Future”. This was due to the University of Manchester’s sponsorship and support of the “Futures of Education for Industry 4.0 and Beyond” Forum on June 2020, which was organized by the UNESCO HK Association Glocal Peace Centre with the aim of facilitating a dialogue over educational reforms in the digital age. Moderated by university alumna Ms. Donna Buckland and featuring sharings by a series of renowned academics and industry professionals, including alumna Mr. Dennis Shi, CEO of Mojodomo, the event drove forward changes to local educational systems, benefiting future generations. eCert: http://cert.sdg.do/qy51/

Since 2006, the East Asia Centre participated in the ACCA Rickshaw Race - a fundraising endeavour, for the first time. Since then, social responsibility initiatives have only grown in depth and scale. Given the high degree of support for such initiatives amongst alumni members, the Centre has high hopes that they would continue to bear fruit in the future.
