The AMBS team discussed how Fujitsu and the Alliance Manchester Business School have developed a collaborative relationship over the past 18 months to create Industry FIVE.

Dr. Ali Orwak, Dr. Christopher Smith and Dr. Fahian Huq from the Alliance Manchester Business School joined Fujitsu’s David Gentle (Director of Strategy and Foresight) to deliver a talk at the annual ‘Fujitsu Distinguished Engineer’ (FDE) which was themed around Fujitsu Technology and Service Vision. Alongside a keynote from David Rowan titled, “Why Innovators Need to Build Trust in Their Technology”, the AMBS team discussed how Fujitsu and the Alliance Manchester Business School have developed a collaborative relationship over the past 18 months to create Industry FIVE (Future Innovation Venture Exchange) to guide and align engagement and the importance of ecosystem relationships. They also presented the findings from their recent joint white paper on ‘Trust 3.0’ enhancing a human centric model for business.

Industry FIVE was created to bring together world-class research and industry business perspectives to address increasingly complex and diverse market challenges. This initiative aims to support the development of connections between the people, projects and activities of partner organisations to deliver on activities such as Knowledge Exchange Transfers, Research & Development, Teaching and Employability. 

The Alliance Manchester Business School has supported Fujitsu and their customers in numerous ways, from supporting customer bids and being involved in co-creation activities, to demonstrating innovative ways to get increased value from data, including working on use cases for their state of the art Data Visualisation Observatory. In a recent project, Darminder Singh Ghataoura (Fujitsu) and Richard Allmendinger (AMBS) co-supervised an MSc dissertation project focused on the application of AI-based simulations for military logistics supply networks, with the outcome published at the NATO Modelling & Simulation Group Symposium. Fujitsu is supporting the National Productivity Institute as a board member and continues to offer AMBS academics support for research activities and bids, sponsorship of course units, and the delivery of skill and career workshops.
