29 June - Manchester Day Series: AED Course & 2030 SDGs Game

29th of June marked the "Manchester Day in Action” for the MBA students, family members and alumni of the East Asia Centre. Our focus was on Sustainable Development Goals 3 - Good Health and Well Being.  A full class of 24 participants spent the whole morning on  learning how to save lives within the golden minutes by performing Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).  Feedback received on this training was positive as this skill is very practical and meaningful in saving lives.  Some participants even mentioned that they are now more consciously looking out for locations of AEDs in public places, so they can be the first to give help when needed.

The second activity of the Manchester Day in Action for the East Asia Centre was the 2030 SDGs Game. Teams of alumni and friends participated in the experiential simulation of the world going from the present into 2030 while achieving goals.  After the activity, participants said the self discovery was profound, kindling their thoughts on what each can do to make our world more sustainable.  A couple of them even committed to bringing the Sustainable Development Goals discussion into the work place and looking into projects on hand to see how it can be applied and turned into reality for true sustainability.

*Manchester Day of Action builds on a pilot campaign run in June 2018. This was based on the date of the civic celebration of ‘Manchester Day’, led by Manchester City Council, which fell on Sunday 15 June, 2018.
