In another of our occasional seminar series, Professor Thomas Chan shared his perceptions about the unusually entitled “Belt and Road Strategy” of China. Initiatives associated with this strategy have been enthusiastically supported by the Hong Kong government and various trade organisations. Prof. Chan placed these initiatives in the context of global trade development and discussed the implications in terms of the opportunities offered and likely obstacles. As Director of the One Belt One Road Research Institute and currently researching the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area, Professor Chan was able to offer a closely focused and highly relevant assessment of what the strategy implies for this region.
