The first International Speaker Series ‘Bringing Nanomaterials Closer to Medicine: Exercises in Nanomedicine’ was conducted in Hong Kong.
Research at the Nanomedicine Lab recently made news in the UK with an announcement at the National Cancer Research Institute conference earlier this week. The lab has developed nanomedical ‘grenades’ or liposomes (tiny bubbles of fat which can be used to transport materials around the body) that can deliver a payload of cancer-killing drugs specifically at the sites of tumours, without causing side effects or damaging healthy tissue. In this talk, Professor Kostarelos explored in particular the biomedical applications of nanomaterials, such as graphene.
